The former home to Habitat for Humanity’s offices was purchased and rezoned by Lat Purser & Associates; Inc., (LPA). LPA renovated the existing three-story, 7,600-sq.-ft. structure and built a new, compatible 9,000-square-foot building. The combined buildings, located at the corner of East 35th Street and Yadkin Avenue, have a total of 19 apartment homes and are called “The Davy.”
The existing building played an important role in Charlotte’s history, as chronicled in the book The Spirit of a Proud People, written by Lois Moore Yandle. The structure was built in the early 1900’s by Stuart Cowan as the North Charlotte Hotel. Employees and guests of Highland Park Mill No. 3 used this hotel. Subsequent to its use as a hotel, the building was used as a boarding house for both the Highland Park Mill and Johnston Mill employees.
The design and décor of the apartments have a contemporary style for its flat and loft options. Apartments range in size from 430 sq. ft. to approximately 1,000 sq. ft. and include eco-friendly products.
